In its sixth year, the Chancellor William C. Graham Awards are given in honour of Chancellor Graham鈥檚 generosity of spirit and leadership, and immeasurable contributions to the Trinity community. The Hon. Bill Graham served as Trinity鈥檚 12th Chancellor from 2007 until his passing in August 2022.

鈥淐hancellor Bill Graham was an exemplary Trinity ambassador and extraordinarily generous, and we are grateful for his many contributions to the College. He made a difference at Trinity and beyond and inspired so many to do the same. With the Chancellor William C. Graham Awards, we honour his memory and legacy, and the impact he has had on the Trinity community,鈥 Provost Nicholas Terpstra said. “On behalf of the College, we extend our gratitude to our eight deserving recipients of the Chancellor Graham Awards 2024 鈥 thank you for your inspirational leadership, for your positive attitude and for being wonderful human beings.”

The Chancellor William C. Graham Awards are given annually to individuals in the four categories: current students; administrative and service staff; academic staff; and alumni. The recipients of the 2024 Chancellor William C. Graham Awards were announced at the Fall Meeting of Corporation, which was held virtually on October 24, 2024.

Below, the summary citation for each recipient is based on the statement provided by the nominator and others in support of the candidate. The citations are brief and will certainly not capture all they contribute to the College, but will give you a snapshot of their impact.

George and Martha Butterfield: Alumni

George and Martha Butterfield are significant donors to 荔枝成人app and their visionary leadership has helped support and influence Trinity’s efforts around sustainability. Their investment to create the Butterfield Environment & Sustainability stream in the Margaret MacMillan Trinity One Program was transformational in helping Trinity attract new students to the College and create a new pillar of academic excellence. Annually, the Butterfields join students in a full-day field trip to New Farm, so that students have an opportunity for hands-on learning. They have also made a significant investment in the Lawson Centre for Sustainability with the rooftop farm, which will further Trinity’s experiential learning opportunities with urban agriculture.

Peter Ciufo: Administrative/Service Staff

For years Peter Ciufo has served at the Welcome Desk and the Student Services Centre. Peter provides exceptional service, mentorship and unwavering dedication to fostering a positive environment at Trinity. He consistently brings joy and laughter, and creates a sense of belonging among residents. His presence and genuine care cultivate an environment where students feel comfortable seeking help and support, reinforcing the values of compassion and community that are at the heart of 荔枝成人app.

Sara Eftekharzadeh: Current Student

Sara Eftekharzadeh is a student who leads by example and inspires others! As the former president of Rainbow Trin and one of Trinity’s Orientation Coordinators this year, Sara is a phenomenal example of positive and inclusive leadership. Her patience, kindness and desire to better her community, and include others were integral to this year鈥檚 Orientation, which welcomed new students to our community, helped them navigate their transition to Trinity and U of T, and no doubt ensured their future success.

Cindy Ewing: Academic Staff

Cindy Ewing is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History, cross-appointed to the International Relations program here at Trinity. She demonstrates a deep dedication to the undergraduate academic experience and she has been praised for her excellent teaching. She has been actively involved in College governance as a 荔枝成人app Senator and a member of the Student Awards Committee. Her contributions to the academic life of the college and her generous mentoring and encouragement of students make her an ideal recipient of this award.

Ryan Marten: Alumni

It is not often that former students so soon out of their studies are able to dedicate their time and energy towards giving back to Trinity. But Ryan Marten has been instrumental in cultivating an active 2T1 alumni community. He is also a member of Corporation and the 荔枝成人app Alumni Association. Ryan cares deeply about giving back to Trinity and actively contributes his time and energy to participate, plan and organize on behalf of current and past students.

Sharon Reid: Administrative/Service Staff

As Manager of the George Ignatieff Theatre for 30 years, Sharon Reid shared her knowledge of theatre history, lighting design, sound engineering and dramaturgy with generations of students interested in drama. Recently Sharon took on the role of Program Coordinator for the Margaret MacMillan Trinity One Program, where she actively supports faculty, and through her dedication and creativity, ensures that students in the program have all the resources they need to be successful. Sharon’s dedication to the common good, and generosity to students and colleagues, make her an ideal candidate for this award.

Eugene Seo: Current Student

Eugene Seo has contributed to the Margaret MacMillan Trinity One program and Trinity鈥檚 larger community in vibrant, creative and collegial ways as a student, mentor, Trinity One program assistant and 荔枝成人app Community Advisor. Eugene always puts the concerns and wellbeing of other students first, particularly those that face marginalization, working to help them flourish and achieve success. He serves in his various leadership roles with humility, moral clarity and a generosity of spirit, raising the standard of conduct and inspiring those who work with him.
